Moving Checklist – Things to Do When Moving In

June 14, 2023, 10:48

You are in the final phase of your moving process! You have arrived at your new place with your moving truck and belongings and it is time to move in. Our team at Marcus Allard Truck Rental takes a look at some of the ways to make it a good end to your moving adventure.

Time to unload

After you have stretched and surveyed your new place, start taking those boxes off of your truck rental and getting them organized. First and foremost, find your essential supplies box that you packed and put those items into place. This will likely include toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, hand soap and towels. Having these items ready to go will help you take breaks throughout your day. Also, be mindful of where you are putting your boxes and larger items as you unload the truck. You do not want to leave them haphazardly in areas where you could trip, or that clog up hallways and walking areas. You need plenty of space and room to move about. Put your furniture up against walls at first, and go back to set up your rooms later when all of the items are unloaded.

Obviously, take the boxes that are in the back of the truck first to carry in. It is also a good idea to take the boxes in the central part to allow for walking to the middle and sides. As you move stuff into your home, place it in the correct rooms to cut down on the stress of unpacking later.

Return your rental

While it can be easy to put off your rental return as you focus on unpacking, it is better to complete this task right away to clear up your driveway and street. Our team members are happy to answer any questions about returning your truck and adjusting your timeframe if it is taking longer than you expected to unload. We offer flexibility in rentals, including a week or month timeframe if needed.

Get settled

Now, it’s time to focus on setting up your new home! Assemble and put into place all of your furniture so you have your seating and sleeping areas ready to go when you need to rest or it is time for bed. Unpack your items in the order that you think you may need them. As you go, move still-packed boxes to the corners of the rooms to allow for movement. Pick up organizational items, such as hangers and drawer dividers, to help you organize your stuff. Find time to meet your new neighbors, take a walk around your neighborhood and identify your nearest grocery store, gas station, restaurants and more.
