How to Find the Best Rental Truck For Your Needs

October 30, 2018, 8:00

Are you moving soon? If you have decided not to hire a moving company, but have too much stuff to fit in your car, then you need to rent a truck or van to haul all your belongings to your new house. At Marcus/Allard Truck Rental in Highland, we have a variety of trucks and vans that are sure to fit your needs.

What to Look for in a Truck Rental Company

Since moving and truck rental is not something that you do every day, it can be quite trying to figure out what type of truck you need and what is the best price for that truck. Here are some tried and true tips to put you on the right path:

Determine what size truck is necessary

Are you moving the contents of a three-bedroom house or a studio apartment? Do you have items stored in the attic or garage?  Do you have people helping you that are willing to drive and will allow you to use their back seat and trunk for more packing space?  All of these types of questions need to be answered before you rent the truck.

Make sure you are comfortable driving the rental vehicle

No one will tell you different than driving a truck is very different from driving a car. You are seated higher in the truck and can see more of what is around you as you drive. However, remember that the truck is more massive than you are used to and you must allow more space between you and other drivers. Sit in different trucks and vans to make sure you are comfortable in the driver’s seat.

Negotiate the price

The price can be negotiated, and the price typically will be lower when you rent a truck during the week. Also, the duration of how long you rent the truck will be a price factor as well.

Insure the vehicle

Be sure that your insurance covers the truck and the items you are moving. If not, purchase insurance from the rental company.

Check the truck before you sign the rental agreement

Go out into the lot and look at the truck you are about to rent. Do the tires look good? No cracks in the windshield? No dents on the door?

Clean and gas up the truck before you return it

If you return the truck clean and filled up with gas, you are most likely to get your deposit back.
