Things You’ll Need When Picking Up a Rental Truck

December 31, 2019, 6:24

You’ve planned your move, reserved your rental truck, and now it’s pickup day. When you show up to the truck rental facility, it’s important to be prepared with everything that you’ll need. Things you’ll need when picking up a rental truck include–

Driver’s License and Credit Card

Perhaps the two most important things that you’ll need at the time of pickup are your driver’s license–which will offer proof your identity, age (we only rent our vehicles to those who are age 21 or older), and driving ability–and a form of payment. At Marcus/Allard Truck Rental, we accept cash and all major credit and debit cards.

If you’re adding another driver onto your policy, be sure that they’re prepared with their driver’s license, too. Another driver can be added to a policy for a small fee.

Proof of Insurance

The third-most important thing that you’ll need when picking up your rental truck is proof of insurance. Talk with your insurer about whether or not your current insurance policy that you hold for your personal motor vehicle will cover your rental truck; if not, you’ll need to purchase an insurance policy through our truck rental company. We can guide you through your coverage options.

Packing and Moving Equipment

When you pick up your rental truck, it’s also the perfect time to pick up any packing and equipment that you’ll need along the way if you haven’t already done so. In addition to boxes and packing tape, you may also need a dolly, pallet jack, straps, and more. Talk to us about the packing and moving equipment we sell or rent, or make sure you have another option lined up.

Knowledge of Where to Get Gas, Your Route, Etc.

It can be stressful to pick up a rental truck without any plan for what happens next. Obviously, you’ll need to return to your home in order to load the truck. From there though, you should have a plan of what route you’ll be taking, who will be driving, where you’ll stop to rest and eat, where you’ll fill up the tank for gas, etc. Remember that the tank also needs to be full when you drop the truck back off – plan for this as well.
